Frequently asked questions:
1) Why are the prices so high?
A: When you buy a puppy from us, you’re part of our family. You’ll receive support in any situation for the life of your puppy. We are producing Pomeranians to the AKC standard & many of our dogs have champions in their pedigrees. (See above photo) Tiny puppies are harder to keep thriving in many situations & require round the clock care. These puppies are often priced a little higher as they are highly sought after but much more “work”. We are focusing on producing breed standard exotic colored Pomeranians. No veterinary expense is spared & we feed high quality food to all the dogs here (Nutrisouce). You’re paying for a well cared for, socialized, purebred, & vaccinated puppy. Prices are generally $1800-4000
2) Why aren’t the older puppies significantly discounted?
A: Puppies are ready for their new homes at 9-12 wks usually with all puppies being held until they are a minimum of 2#. If a puppy is held longer, it will be vaccinated appropriately therefore saving you vet bills. We handle puppies daily & they are exposed to cats as well as my children. We litterbox train, so puppies here past 3-4 months are often close to 100% trained to use their box. Older puppies are past the teething stages & will not be as eager to bite. You’ll also have a better idea of the size of an older puppy, as we can often be surprised with a growth spurt on a young puppy. If a puppy is here past 6 months of age it will be spayed/neutered before it goes home also saving you vet bills. A puppy can be expected to hold it’s bladder for 1 hr per month of age. So if you wish to crate train, a 6 month old puppy can hold it most of the night vs a young puppy needing to be taken more frequently. These are just some of the great reasons to consider an older puppy.
3) Do return customers get a discount?
A: Yes, usually a discount of $200 on females & $100 on males will be applied with an occasional larger discount in certain situations.
4) Why do you place your adult dogs?
A: We love all of our dogs very much but in reality we know we can’t keep them all & still continue to breed. It’s often a very hard decision but one that’s made in the best interest of the dog. To date, each retired adult Pomeranian has meshed well with their new family & made them very happy. We always put the well being of the dog first & sometimes that means putting our feelings aside to make sure the dogs will have the best life possible. Females are retired usually by age 6-7 & have MANY more years ahead of them to continue being spoiled, lap babies. They get more attention in their retirement homes & so far, everyone has kept in touch. A senior citizen who has lost their dog recently, is often a great match as they worry about outliving a new puppy. Sometimes a work schedule means an adult dog is better than a puppy as well. We are selective in the homes we choose for every dog that leaves our home.
5) Why don’t you sell to other breeders?
A: This is a personal decision & nothing against other breeders. We are protecting our line that we’ve worked very hard to perfect over the years & don’t want to chance one of our dogs being placed in the wrong hands. We did sell one female full AKC back in 2010 & in 2013 learned of her being sold to another breeder in breach of contract. We went to court & won the first case as well as all the appeals. The dog was returned by the 3rd party who wasn’t aware of the situation & a bad situation ended up being ok. We do not wish to go through that ever again so have chosen to send any puppy not kept for our program to pet homes with a spay/neuter contract. We are getting closer to the show ring, however, so in the coming years we may offer a select few to show homes.
6) Why should I choose an Em&m Pom?
A: While our contract is strict & often weeds out individuals with ill intentions, we will not rewrite it for anyone. Puppies are microchipped before leaving to reduce the chance of them ending up in a shelter at ANY time in their lives. We are available 24/7 (typically) for questions, support, or to take the dog back should that be necessary. Puppies are handled daily & a social puppy makes all the difference. You may find a cheaper puppy elsewhere but has it been raised in a home setting vs a kennel? Has it been vaccinated & vet checked? What kind of food is being fed? Do the adults receive preventative care like dentals & spay/neuter when they are no longer being bred? These are signs of a good breeder & we are always happy to give references for buyers & even our vet.
7) What is involved with the nanny?
A: As of 2019, we have found an outstanding nanny who treats our puppies as if they were his own. He will deliver across the US for a fee. We don’t charge for traveling to the airport (2 hrs one way). A health certificate can be provided upon request. The nanny uses his own crate, so you will receive your puppy, a small bag of goodies, and their paperwork. He delivers in person & travels with the puppy 100% of the time. This is much safer than sending cargo & price is very very similar. References are also available for him.
8) Why is the deposit non refundable?
A: Deposits are accepted at 4 wks of age & are not refundable unless something happens to that specific puppy. (See deposit agreement for specific details) When your deposit is placed at that age the puppy is considered reserved & is not marketed to the general public any longer. Updated pics are taken weekly (give or take a few days due to family obligations) & sent to you directly. If you back out of the sale when the puppy is (for example) 8 wks old & he’s due to come home in a week, that does not give him much time to find his people. We essentially have to start over in advertising which is extremely unfair to the puppy. Deposits are $500 & we hope that before you place the deposit you have considered that getting a new puppy is a life time commitment & should be thought through. Deposits DO apply to the price of your puppy.
9) Why do I have to pay in full before getting the puppy when I’m taking the nanny option?
A: We require full payment prior to a date being set for delivery because we will not see the nanny once your puppy is delivered. So paying him in person is unfortunately not an option. Payment by CHASE bank money order is preferred. It can be traced, but we ask that you send it with a tracking number anyway along with your NOTARIZED contract. These must be received prior to delivery by mail or FedEx/UPS. We can offer whatever info you need to be sure you’re happy with the transaction. Walmart to Walmart transfers & Zelle are also accepted. We do NOT accept PayPal for full payment. You as a buyer are worried about being scammed but we also have to be careful. We hope you’ll communicate any concerns & understand our puppies are the first priority.
10) Can I see the puppies in person before placing a deposit?
A: You are able to see puppies who have had their first vaccine & vet check. In other words, puppies who are ready to leave. Most of our puppies are reserved pretty quickly, but on the off chance one is not reserved young, we do allow you to visit & can take him/her home the same day if you’re a good match. We cannot allow you in our home or to see puppies that have not gotten their first shot. For the safety of both our family & our dogs, since you can carry many diseases/viruses on your shoes & clothes. We are also happy to FaceTime.
11) Why is the microchip being registered to you as the owner?
A: As of June 2021, I have decided to register all microchips myself. Most of my puppies are chipped with AVID chips which allows an owner & a co owner as well as an alternate contact & your vet’s information to be connected to the chip. The reason I am registering is because I started going through my records to check the chips of past puppies & SEVERAL have not been registered! I was shocked! What this means is, if a past puppy is picked up by the shelter & no owner is listed, the shelter can ADOPT THE DOG OUT! You won’t get a call & I *may* get a call as I am the purchaser of the chip so they are still traceable to me. But that only goes as far as the person on the other end of the phone & their honesty. This risk isn’t worth it to me so I will be registering all chips myself. You will be listed as the owner as well as myself. It is always my goal to get your dog back to you but my phone number has been the same since 1997 & I know I can be reached if it’s ever needed. Most of my buyers keep in touch & I am able to get ahold of them quickly once I am contacted. If you have further questions please let me know. As always the safety of the puppies is my priority.
We thank you for considering one of our babies for your family & are happy to answer any questions you have. We do have a life outside of breeding & appreciate SERIOUS inquires. We try to devote as much time as possible to our dogs & human family.
